This summer may have been a washout but in the world of Little Eglantine, run by French designer Stephanie Staub, the sun has been shining! The Maidenhead-based company, which creates special occasion childrenswear, is only a year old but has already beaten its business forecast six times over, says Stephanie.

Stephanie’s inspiration for her creations comes from a background not just of Parisian chic but also from the aristocratic and artistic surroundings of her family’s chateau in the Loire Valley, and a mother who was herself a keen designer and dressmaker, “I started sewing at a very early age and had made my first proper party dress by the age of 16!” she says.

Delicate bridesmaid’s dresses and stylish suits for pageboys are individually designed and created after in-depth consultation. “My customers do have the option of choosing from Little Eglantine’s current collection or I can work with them to create their own design,” explains Stephanie.

Everything is done by phone and through her website. “Initially I launched from a studio but I discovered that brides-to-be were often very busy and preferred the phone or email, and it was difficult to get children together for fittings. Now I send fabric samples and we provide a special measurement booklet, which has proved very successful.”

One enthusiastic client says: “I approached Stephanie without a clear idea or colour scheme for my wedding and she researched my venue and came up with the perfect idea for the wedding. She has a keen eye for colour and the garments were original and beautifully made.”

The Little Eglantine label had already become well established in Paris, when Stephanie met and married her husband, and was happy to move and settle in England. Her latest range is currently being photographed on Mauritius and will be available on her website in time for next year’s weddings.
